Bird Walk at Lehigh Gorge State Park; 8:00 AM
The history of Lehigh Gorge is dominated by the canals, railroad, and lumbering. Today we’ll try to relive a different part of the park’s history. In 1829 John James Audubon visited Lehigh Gorge in search of birds. While we won’t be shooting and collecting the specimens we view, we will take time to look, listen, and appreciate their presence. Mid-May is the perfect time to scour the trail for migrant warblers such as Black-throated green warblers and Blackburnian warblers. Join the naturalist for an easy walk along the rail trail in search of these beautiful and inspiring birds. Bring your own binoculars or borrow ours. Meet at the Lehigh Tannery access. Call the Hickory Run State Park office (570-443-0400) for more information. Registration is NOT required.
